How to play
Five rounds a day, the same for everyone.
- ๐ Tap it (three rounds)
- We name a place. Spin the globe, drop a pin, then tap Lock it in. Zoom by pinching or double-tapping (on the website, the + and โ buttons too). A perfect pin is 1,000 points; 1,000 km off is about 670, 2,500 km about 370.
- โ๏ธ Draw it (two rounds)
- One country and one US state, from memory. Size, position and a little tilt don't matter: we line your drawing up with the real outline and measure the overlap. A lazy oval won't score much; 1,000 takes a near-trace. Some shapes come in pieces (Japan, Michigan); lift your finger between them.
- Come back tomorrow
- New places at local midnight. Play daily to keep your streak.
FAQ
- Is the website the same game as the app?
- Yes. Same five rounds, same scoring.
- Does my streak carry between the website and the app?
- No. Nothing leaves your device, so the app and each browser keep their own streak.
- What's in Sketchy Maps+?
- In the app: unlimited practice, practice on your misses, every past day since #1 (they don't touch your streak), Deep Cuts (places too obscure for the daily) and stats. Yearly, or a one-time lifetime purchase.
- How do I cancel the yearly plan?
- On your iPhone: Settings โ your name โ Subscriptions โ Sketchy Maps. Cancel at least 24 hours before it renews. Apple handles subscriptions and refunds; you can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Is that pin in the right place?
- Each place is a single point (a city's centre, a mountain's summit), so close still scores well. If a pin looks wrong, tell us.
- My pin or drawing didn't register.
- On the globe, tap without dragging (a drag spins it). On the drawing pad, the Score it button turns on once you've drawn a real line.
- Is my data collected?
- No. See the privacy policy.
Restore purchases
New iPhone or reinstalled? In the app, go to Settings and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the Apple ID you bought it with.
